10 Food Ingredients You Need to Know Before Going To The Grocery Store
Your primary source of nutrition and health is food. Your body is what you eat. It seems easy to eat healthily, but there are so many deceptions from food companies that it can be difficult to determine healthy food.
You are bombarded with subtle marketing tricks as you shop in your local grocery. Food companies want to convince you to purchase their products.
Many products boast bold claims like “Organic,” “No Trans Fats,” “Fat-Free,” and other healthy terms. Many consumers don’t realize they are purchasing foods that can be harmful to their health. It might seem obvious that organic means healthy, but this is often not the case.
Food companies DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.
This is something you should realize as soon as possible. Food companies don’t care about your health. They want to make money. While companies may shift their marketing to keep up with consumer demand and trends, they won’t necessarily alter the way they produce and process food. They may also try to conceal harmful ingredients.

Sodium Nitrate can be used as an additive to preserve food. It can be found in hot dogs, deli meats, and other processed meats. Studies have shown that sodium nitrate can cause heart disease, diabetes and cancer, and neurological conditions and problems in the gastrointestinal tract. Stick to lean meats, and avoid sodium nitrate-containing meats.
Azodicarbonamide, an industrial chemical, is used in the production of rubber and synthetic leather. It makes things foamy, so someone decided to add it to bread.
It can also be used to make cereal flour whiter. Despite the FDA claiming that there is not enough research to prove harm from this chemical in food products, it has been banned in Australia and Europe. The CDC and World Health Organization list respiratory problems and eye irritations and warn against ingesting. Others link ingesting this chemical to a lowering of immune function and damaging hormones.
- High fructose corn syrup
Despite the corn industry’s aggressive campaign to convince us otherwise, high fructose corn syrup IS NOT a natural food. It is highly processed. It is not the same as natural sugar, and the body does not process it in the same way. It poses many health risks due to the high levels of high fructose syrup in foods.
High fructose corn syrup has been linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and liver disease. It is now listed as fructose, fructose syrup and other names by food manufacturers because they know that consumers will be looking for it on ingredient labels. It’s still a dangerous ingredient in high quantities, and it has a new name.
- BHT (butyl-hydroxytoluene).
Butylhydroxytoluene, also known as BHT, is a synthetic compound used in cosmetics and food preservatives. It prevents food and cosmetics from going stale by slowing down natural oxidation.
